Nice to meet you! This is Kahon.

I am working as a plant dyeing accessory artist in Japan.

I was fascinated by meeting plant dyeing in a university class, and I studied in the laboratory in order to learn in earnest.

What is plant dyeing in the first place?

It is about extracting pigments from plants and dyeing them.

Seems difficult! It's easy to think, but many people are surprised that it's easy when they actually try Kahon's method.

I will teach you from the basics in an easy-to-understand manner, even for beginners.

Like cooking in the kitchen

I will tell you how to easily and safely dye plants using tools like those found in the kitchen, such as pots and bowls.

We do not use hazardous chemicals at all.

It's fun to make your own colors

Even for me, who has been doing plant dyeing for years, I am moved by the color of the dyeing process every time. Please be healed by the color of the plants.

The more you know, the more interesting

There are also lessons unique to creators that I learned in a university laboratory.

Let's take a peek at plant dyeing from a slightly scientific perspective.

You can even make accessories!

Even for those who do plant dyeing, there are many people who are worried about the uses of dyed cloth and yarn.

Dyed is good, but... whatever you use it for.

I'll teach you how to make a wonderful cloth flower accessory!

Q.When did you feel the appeal of plant dyeing?

A. I came across plant dyeing in a class called “Dyeing Processing Science” at university. I'm moved by the beautiful colors dyed with plants, and I want to learn more! I thought I went into a natural dyeing laboratory. There, I was wearing a white coat and doing experiments. Plant dyeing is really interesting even from a scientific point of view. I will also tell you such a story in the lesson.

Q. Do you have any special tips for teachers when designing accessories?

A. I like to make things sensually, so when I make my own, I often shape them with scissors from the beginning without using a pattern. Also, no special tools are used to wrinkle petals or express veins on leaves. Use your fingertips and nails to express delicate plant expressions. Therefore, I try to observe the plants carefully on a regular basis.

Q. What kind of experiences do you want the students to have through this class?

A. I want people to know the richness of colors woven by plants. I think that if you know that you can easily dye with plants, you will be able to see nature from a new perspective. I would be happy if you could relax your shoulders and have fun making accessories. I hope it will be a healing time in the midst of your busy days.

Q. Please give a message to the students!

A. The accessories I dyed and made by myself are really cute. Let's complete 6 amazing accessories together!
