Hi, I'm Russell!

I'm Rusesell, and I create 3D graphic works. I became a 3D designer because I find it fascinating to be able to visualize imaginary objects and environments as I want.

Based on this passion, I've collaborated with some amazing major companies for years, and currently I'm working on my art with 180K subscribers on YouTube.

My first class <Use Unreal Engine to Build Your Own Virtual World with Russell> not only achieved 100% student satisfaction, but it was also selected as the top 20 in the video/design category.

Furthermore, Adobe, the producer of Substance Painter, recognized my work so I also got to make an official lecture video introducing Substance Painter with Adobe.

Substance artist Russell tells you the key tools in Substance Painter:

The Era of 3D Technology Has Changed

In the past, 3D textures were photoshopped. The traditional method of drawing on a flat map has been around for a long time. But times have changed.

Substance Painter automatically creates a physics-based texture when you paint as if you were drawing directly on a 3D model. Based on this, the accurate calculation of lighting and environment is possible.

📍 This Is Called PBR (Physically Based Rendering) Texture.

Why You Should Start Substance Painter

There are many textures on the market, but applying them to objects is something else. Every modeling has a different structure and different planar figures, that is, UV.

📍 Simply put, like the way fabric needs needle work to become a nice outfit, texure needs modeling to become a nice 3D work. This is called texture mapping.

Can you see the tiny scratches and stains on the coke lid?
Using Substance Painter, anyone can perfectly embody delicate expressions.

Substance Painter puts photos and logos where you want with accurate calculations in a quality you could have only imagined. You can create perfectly finished modeling and a texture that suits it the most.

📍 Substance Painter can create 3D works of exceptional quality through accurate calculation.

3D for Beginners

Here's an example of a lesson we'll create together!

There was a big hurdle for beginners to learn 3D because it requires a lot of prior knowledge. Since I am self-taught, I myself am all too well aware of where you get stuck and struggle.

❓ UV deployment

❓ Texture channel

❓ Mask

❓ Baking

❓ Layer blending, etc.

📍 The curriculum is focused on practical exercises so that you can learn difficult concepts fun and easily as you try making various styles yourself!

Work quickly, Fix quickly, Respond quickly!

Assuming that you have worked in the order A → B → C, there may be some things in A that you don't like or need corrections after finishing all the work. It's a really difficult moment. It's pretty upsetting because getting off work seems to be pushed 3 hours back.

BUT! With Substance Painter, it's fine. In Substance Painter, all work processes are stacked. In other words, even if A is modified, B and C can be automatically modified without having to rework.

The Substance Painter can be easily modified as many times as you like by simply adjusting the values. I'll tell you all about how to set this way of working and how to make use of it. Let me show you the road map of 3D work! You will be able to improve not only the quality but also the direction of your work.

📍 Substance Painter allows you to leave work early after working quickly. It is used as a standard program in the actual field, and it is an essential program for you to learn now.

Drawing Skills, Not Necessary!

Built-in presets

Personalize your style with presets

Substance Painter already has an extensive database built in. Anyone can create amazing work without knowing how to draw at all.

📍 Here's a magical way to combine the presets in your own style.

3D Modeling Skills, Not Necessary!

We will apply textures on sample modeling works together. This will help you understand texture clearly. Also, you will learn how to do modeling work efficiently through practical exercises.

Of course, I will go through the basic principles of modeling in detail, and will also cover the key concepts for you to use when studying modeling on your own later.

Fun 3D Work of Exceptional Quality

From the realistic reflection of light to the finest scratch details, this class helps you perfect the level of sophistication and quality of your work by practicing all the detailed parts step by step.

This is not just about ways to use tools, but upgrading your aesthetic sense to the level of a professional.

📍 I pass on all the know-how I use in the field, such as color combinations, detailed weathering, various materials, filter and rendering settings.

3D for Work and Practice

High quality rendering can be done with just one click in the Substance Painter. What's more is that it is compatible with other programs! We'll show you how to apply it to Blender, Maya, 3Ds Max, Unreal Engine, and Cinema 4D.

The Future of 3D Graphics, Substance Painter

In the post-COVID-19 era, virtual reality and 3D work are becoming relevant from various industries. It is already being used not only in the fields of games and movies, but also everywhere in architecture, medicine, broadcasting, simulation, etc. It is a field that will grow even further in the future.

📍 It's okay if you don't know 3D at all. Get started with easy and fun 3D graphics. With me, your journey on becoming a remarkable artist won't be difficult!

For you to actively use it in practice
I will share various tips, texture calculation methods, and future study methods!

RYU Russel

Hello! I'm Russell, a creator who makes 3D graphic design works. When I first started studying 3D graphics, I decided to become a 3D artist because I was very attracted to being able to visualize my memories and emotions from the past and share those feelings with people who see my work. I think it's so beautiful to be able to recreate and share the memories and emotions that everyone has, such as the playground we used to play in, the beach we traveled to, the house we lived in the past. Also, when VR and AR are commercialized in the future as technology develops, I think it will be more than a hobby. It could become a job in high demand with much potentials. I hope many of you find this job enjoyable with me!
