Skills You’ll Learn
A highly anticipated book adaptation due to its popularity in CLASS101!
Nice to meet you! It is Aoe Kakuho who makes temple meals that warm the heart.
Hello. My name is Kakuho Aoe, the chief priest of Ryokusenji Temple and a cooking monk.
We are carrying out activities to enrich everyone's lives by conveying Buddhism through “food,” which no one can live without.
In this class, we propose a way to relax and face the meal with plenty of time by preparing a temple meal and having it.
Building your mind and body We'll help you make mealtime a time to prepare yourself.
I met Shojin ryori for the first time. That first step
Don't you think the hurdles are high for temple meals, starting with vegetarian cuisine?
However, no special knowledge or skills are required. What's important is a little bit of awareness and mindfulness.
I will carefully tell you the background of Shojin ryori, an explanation of the ingredients, and the entire process of making it from the basics, so you can try your first temple meal with peace of mind.
Also, since it is an on-demand class, everyone can cook at their own pace. Please feel the fun of completing authentic vegetarian cuisine one by one!
One soup and two dishes carefully prepared with the theme of rokune
Do you know the word “rokune”?
Rokkon is a Buddhist word that adds consciousness to the five senses such as sight and taste (eye, ear, nose, tongue, body).
In this class, we will take a close look at our own six senses while cooking dishes that match the theme of rokune. Let's learn a new way to deal with cooking.
Know the meaning of “eat.”Find your own “delicious.”
Let's enjoy it more deeply by carefully eating carefully prepared dishes.
What is a meal that satisfies the mind and body? What is cooking food? What is eating? I will suggest an opportunity to ask yourself questions.
Mindfulness experiences transmitted along with cooking
In the final chapter of the class, “Temple Meal Online,” we will set up time to seriously face eating.
And not only cooking, but also everyone's lives through this class I will also put effort into talks (puja) that will enrich you.
This is a class where you can build your mind and body and prepare yourself. Please take the course by all means.

What is it like to cook food instead of just being able to cook?
what does it mean to eat a meal? Through cooking food while thinking about it, we will deliver an experience where your mind and body come together.
As it is, actual cooking classes and events have been held, but opportunities have disappeared due to COVID-19. I received a relationship with CLASS101 this time, and I thought it was this time of year, so I decided to start the course.
So many people helped me until the course started, so I would like to do my best.

Q. What kind of activities does your teacher usually do? Please introduce your teacher briefly!
A. I live a basic temple life. I wake up at around 4:30 every morning, wash my face, and then give you a sutra.
After that, we started preparing breakfast and ate. In the morning, “temple” work will be carried out.
I spend the afternoon consulting with neighbors and danke, and in the evening I finish my day's work, take a bath, and slowly watch movies etc. at night and go to bed around 10:00.
Q. Please give a message to the students!
A. You can learn about a variety of cuisines, from one dish that can be used as a side dish at home to one called this temple meal, and it is also a class that is tightly packed with the history of eating at temples and the mindset when eating. Please enjoy it.
