Skills You’ll Learn
Why don't you spend a quiet time doing hand weaving using a desktop rigid machine?
Nice to meet you, I'm Itohen, who runs a handicraft shop and classroom in Kyoto.
In this class, we will create works focusing on 6 types of weaving, from the basics to applications of hand weaving using thread and a loom.
The tabletop rigid machine used in class is a type of loom that integrates a sow (a) and a sowel (sow). Since it can be rolled up, it is possible to weave long things such as scarves, etc., or by changing the density of the thread, techniques, and patterns, such as delicate and thick things, and various things can be woven.
The mechanism is simpler than that of a full-fledged large, high-altitude machine, so you can be familiar with hand weaving for a long time.
When I created this class, I thought about the structure and content so that they could level up in sequence while thinking about people who are new to touching a loom or who have experienced hand weaving but would like to step up from now on.
First, let's start by learning the variations of how to stretch warp thread
The curriculum was structured so that beginners can also start by stretching threads cleanly and complete hand woven fabrics they want to use. By knowing the relationship between weft and warp yarn and changes in density, thread color and thickness, etc., you can learn 6 types of weaving methods in lessons so that you can feel the fun and limitless expanse of hand weaving.
Also, the kit configuration was prepared with good quality yarn suitable for weaving. All cotton threads are made from environmentally friendly recycled cotton. Also, for things that come into direct contact with the skin, such as scarves, we have selected high-quality natural materials that feel good against the skin, so let's enjoy hand weaving while imagining wearing them directly after completion.
Let's learn various weaving methods and make practical and beautiful fabrics that are easy to incorporate into our daily lives
Even those who already have experience in hand weaving can learn a variety of weaving techniques. It is also recommended for those who are worried about how to weave or choose yarn suitable for their work, or who are self-taught or have stopped at simple plain weaving with only one-off weaving. By knowing how to choose yarn, materials, and weaving methods that suit your application, you can create practical works that are easy to use in your daily life. In the latter half of the applied techniques, you can expand the range of works by learning how to select thread and thread, various methods of straightening and weaving.
In my everyday work activities, I try to go from simple, easy-to-use standard designs that make use of the characteristics of natural materials to things that add a bit of playfulness and effort.
Our motto is “Tishigoto in our lives” because it is an age where things such as mass-produced products and disposable items can be easily obtained.
So that we can fill our lives and hearts with warm handwork,
Why don't you start hand weaving where you can enjoy quiet time?
There are 2 types of yarn, A set and B set, so please choose a color before purchasing.

I like things and things related to yarn and “yarn,” and I work as a raw wool shop or artist
Then, starting in 2014, there was a small shop and classroom for thread and tools on the edge of Kyoto
I'm doing it.
Let many people know about the appeal of hand weaving, which began over 10 years ago,
I want to make the lesson content so that people can become familiar with hand weaving
That's it.
Because it's an age where everything can be easily obtained, mass-produced products, disposable products, etc., “Kura
With the motto “Tishigoto in the Shino,” there is warmth that satisfies life and heart
I would like to make suggestions and help with Monotsukuri.

[Creator Interview]
Q. Please tell us about your experiences and achievements so far! Please tell us about your exhibitions, awards, etc.
As a handmade artist from around 2007, she began artist activities mainly at handmade markets in Kyoto and Osaka. From 2014, a handicraft shop “Itohen” was opened beside the raw material shop staff. As a shopkeeper, he plans and organizes many things such as proposals for monotsukuri related to Itohen, handicraft exhibition events, workshops, etc. (Public Foundation) Japan Handicraft Promotion Association Hand Weaving Instructor.
Q. What led you to start weaving?
I wanted to create original works, so I started my hand weaving life with a desktop rigid machine that I could easily try out, but the more I learned, the more I learned, the more I was fascinated by the deep and creative world of weaving, and I have continued to the present.
Q. Why did you start online classes with CLASS101?
I want many people to be familiar with the wide and deep world of hand weaving and its appeal in a more familiar and casual way! I want you to touch the warmth of every hand! With that in mind, I started the course.
Q. What points did you put the most effort into planning your classes? Who would you recommend this class to?
I was conscious of designs and materials that I would like to try weaving, that I would like to wear and use, and a step structure that even beginners can make without difficulty.
Q. What kind of experience do you want the students to have through this class?
Going back in time to the era of simplicity, convenience, and speed, I went out of my way to put my hands and time into “hand weaving.” You may not be able to weave well right away. You might get tired along the way. But that experience will never go to waste. The tips and points I'm going to share with you are my own accumulation and gifts from my own failure experiences and trials. I would be happy if you could enjoy the twirl process mindlessly and experience the sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and origin of monotsukuri that can be obtained after finishing.
Q. Please give a word to the students!
The image of “hand weaving” is a slightly higher hurdle, but if you have motivation and patience, it's actually a handicraft that is easy for clumsy people to try. Let's share the fun together!
