Capturinrg Warm and Delicate Moods in Drawings

Hello, I'm yeonstel. Oil pastel is a very attractive art material with warmth and coziness. When you layer colors on top of each other, it creates rich and deep expressions, and its rough yet soft texture creates a unique and warm atmosphere. That's why I fell in love with oil pastel.

In this class, I'll share all of my tips and tricks for creating beautiful oil pastel portraits. From selecting the right colors to capturing intricate details, I'll guide you through a step-by-step curriculum that's tailored to your skill level.

People have been curious about the secret of 'soft' color tones, I'll let you know all of them.

One of the reasons why many people like my oil pastel drawings is because of the 'color tones'. Especially for portraits, if you choose the wrong colors, it can quickly look dull or awkward.

That's why I am excited to share with you my own color chart that I use to express warm, clear, and soft skin tones. Pick colors that match well with your subject and combine them to create a rich atmosphere.

Slowly Sketching Together

Drawing people can seem more difficult than drawing flowers or landscapes, but don't worry too much! I'll take it slow and show you the process of sketching from the eyes, nose, and mouth to the overall shape of the face. I'll also teach you a simple way to add shading, which beginners may find difficult.

If Sketching Feels Too Daunting,
It's Okay to Follow Along With Me!

If the facial features are even slightly off, it can make the drawing look awkward. So it's best to sketch as accurately as possible. However, spending too much time on sketching can drain your energy and motivation before you even start coloring.

For those who still find drawing people difficult even after practice, I'll share a tracing technique that can help you quickly and easily sketch the outline. Once you've finished the basic sketch, you can fill in your own colors and enjoy the process of creating your own unique piece of art :)

When Adding One Stroke After Another -

Capturing Clarity in Each Stroke

When using oil pastels, you may find that the edges become blunt, making it difficult to create detailed expressions. In that case, using colored pencils can make it easier to do more delicate work. We'll show you how to use colored pencils to add intricate details to eyes, noses, and mouths.

For Those Who Are Unfamiliar With Oil Pastels

Some of you may feel unfamiliar or find it difficult to work with oil pastels. In fact, in some ways, oil pastels can be a very demanding material to work with. Therefore, it's best to take the basic steps slowly and steadily.

In the early stages of the class, we've prepared a chapter that covers basic skills such as simple line exercises and how to use various tools in a concise and easy-to-understand way. If you follow along step by step, you'll be able to approach any picture with much greater ease!

Let's fill the atmosphere with a richer drawing

Sometimes, when we only draw a character on a blank canvas, it may look empty and incomplete. So, why not try completing the picture by adding some objects that go along with the character?

Let's draw a scene from the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" together, and add sunglasses, sparkling accessories, bread, and a cup held in the hand to create a luxurious atmosphere. Of course, we should not forget to capture the elegant and sophisticated vibe of the movie :)

We will also be drawing Dorothy from <The Wizard of Oz>, where the sky-blue ribbon will be the highlight. We will learn how to depict her clothing and hair, and try to capture the lovable character from the movie in our drawing.

Bonus Chapter: Drawing with Cute Cats

The cat stretching and yawning is named "Min-sik" and the cute round-eyed one is named "Young-hee" :)

Based on the feedback from the survey, I have prepared a bonus chapter where you can draw two adorable cats. I will show you how to sketch using basic shapes and how to color and texture the fluffy fur. You can apply what you have learned to draw your own pet or any other cat with your favorite fur color.

A Time to Warm Up Your Heart

We hope you enjoyed this class and found it both informative and fun. Remember, the most important thing about art is to enjoy the process and not worry too much about the end result.

I look forward to the next time we meet in class❣

Hello, I'm oil pastel artist yeonstel.

I've drawn oil pastel paintings on various topics, but I think I enjoyed drawing the most when I drew portraits. When you draw portraits with oil pastels, you don't need to worry about being too detailed because the bold strokes of the medium can still create a beautiful and expressive image. You can also add some fine details with colored pencils if you want.

Drawing portraits with blunt oil pastels might seem unfamiliar to some, but I would like to share with you an easier and more approachable way to draw portraits based on my experience and know-how. Let's draw oil pastel portraits with warm colors and have fun together!
