Digital illustration course to create and draw original characters

Let's learn character design and illustration creation know-how!

This class is an online digital illustration course for students to be able to draw original characters with their own unique personality.

In this illustration course, we will start with a lecture on “ways of thinking” such as character design methods and work flows, and work together with the creators to come up with characters while actually moving their hands and turn them into illustrations.

I think it will be a class where you will learn a lot, from those who “want to learn illustration” or “I want to draw my own character illustrations because I'm busy” to those who “aren't satisfied with their own character design” or “want to do work related to character design such as Vtuber.”

[This illustration course is suitable for people like this]

  • Those who want to not only draw pictures but also design characters
  • I want to try digitally illustrating characters, but I don't know how to get started
  • There is a character design I want to express, but I can't reproduce it wellSquare
  • I want to do work related to character designSquare
  • I want to improve my character design skills and make use of them in my workSquare

[Step.1] Let's learn character design thought processes and output methods

In this digital illustration course, we aim not only to have the know-how to draw illustrations, but also to be able to create and draw your own original characters.

In the lesson, you will first receive a lecture on the basic flow of character design from creator Iroshio. Let's learn how to think, how to select and incorporate motifs, etc. by following the methods Iroshio actually does when creating game characters, etc.

[Step.2] Move your head and hands to create original characters

Next, making use of what you learned in step 1, you will actually set up characters and select motifs, draw rough drawings, and go as far as completing the character design.

We start thinking about character settings, props, costumes, etc., and then incorporate them into the design.

Let's complete the “three-sided view” by deciding on the character's front, back, and side designs, and accessories.

[Step.3] Draw up a “standing picture” illustration of the character

Once the three-sided drawing is completed, the next step is to draw a “standing picture” of that character.

Let's start by drawing a “pose rough” by thinking about character settings and poses where character design comes into play, and acquire solid know-how while performing the processes necessary to draw a single character illustration together with the creator, such as rough → rough color → line drawing → dividing parts → painting → thick coating → processing/finishing.

<Message from the creator>

Let's experience the fun of creating our own characters together

Nice to meet you, my name is Irosho. Thank you for your interest in this class.

I think there are various thoughts, such as “I want to do a digital character illustration, but I don't know how to get started” or “I want to improve my character design skills and make use of them in my work.”

In this class, I will teach such people the know-how to think about original characters based on their own settings and preferences and create digital illustrations of them from scratch. I want the lesson content to be impressive, from what point to the process of expanding and developing ideas and how to connect them to the form of illustration.

The content is for beginners to intermediates who are a little accustomed to drawing illustrations, but I would like to make the lesson content enjoyable without special knowledge or software so that even beginners can easily take on the challenge.

I would be happy if you could enjoy the fun of creating your own characters in this class.

[A word to classmates]

Nice to meet you, my name is Irosho and I'm an illustrator!

Character design is a part where the individuality of the person drawing the picture is particularly likely to come out, and I believe that individuality will also come out in that process.

Therefore, rather than teaching me how to design my character completely in this class, I hope I can help you create character designs that are unique to you!

While drawing pictures, “designing” is my favorite process, and I would be happy if I could teach you the know-how of that work for your paintings.

[Creator Interview]

Q. What kind of experience do you want the students to have through this class?

A.I want you to experience the fun of creating your own characters!
