About the class

Hallo The first Odish dancer in Korea is Geum Bitna.

When you dance India, you'll think of belly dancing that shakes your pelvis. In addition to belly dancing, there are many other traditional dances in India. Among them, Odisi is a dance that has a mysterious and intense feeling that has never been seen since birth. Aren't you curious about what kind of dance it is?

“Odisha Odisha” means “dance from the Odisha region of Odisa” located on the east coast of India. It contains 18 years of know-how that is easier to understand and more authentic than learning from any local teacher in India.

The class comprised two topics: 1) basic techniques and works of Odish dance, and 2) reading humanistic Indian dance. While dancing, I'll explain Indian philosophy, mythology, and culture from all over the place. It's much deeper and more fun to dance while understanding the context and symbols unique to Odish and connecting all of those things to do with me. I mean This class is a fun way to learn about Indian philosophy with charming dance.

Course effect

  • People who are interested in movement, meditation, yoga, acting, etc.
  • Those who want to have strong muscle strength and beautiful body lines
  • People who are interested in philosophy but want to have more fun learning

3 reasons why this class is special

① A mysterious dance that creates a beautiful and strong body

Through Odyssey, I imprint strong thighs, a straight spine, eyes that look straight ahead, and a smiling face on my body. Odisi has so many graceful and colorful postures that it is called the dance of statues. Seemingly beautiful on the outside, people who are in good posture are using tremendous physical strength and big muscles.

From the pupils to the neck, shoulders, chest, wrists, and tips of the nails, I'll calmly focus on small movements that I don't use often in my daily life. What does such a delicate body need to move gracefully? Elegance requires softness, softness requires balance that is not skewed to one side, and balance requires strong strength.

Let's create burning thighs and a stable pelvis and core in a straight and beautiful posture.

② Learn from an authentic mentor

New and diverse knowledge that was not easily accessible

Learn mudra, an intense hand gesture that resembles a red flower. There are many people who know mudras as finger yoga. 28 one-handed mudras were introduced in the Indian dance sutra “Abhinaya Darpana Abhinaya Darpana Abiner, Abhinaya Darpana, Abiner, Durbiner,” written around the 5th century. I will tell you the meaning, form, and movement of 10 of the mudras in detail. Have fun learning accurate knowledge!

③ Feel Indian culture and sensibility with your whole body as if you were on a trip to India

“Is it a dance dedicated to God? I'm a martial arts student, right?”

Odisi has entered modern times and is popular around the world as a traditional dance representing India and an artistic classical dance, but in ancient times, it began as a “dance of devotion” offered to the gods in Hindu temples and a “dance of blessings” loved by the gods.

However, there is something to keep in mind. The god we're talking about here is different from the god we commonly know. You can think of the gods of Hinduism not as gods as creators in the West, but as personifying “the principles or powers of all the universe, including me,” with a more metaphysical and philosophical concept.

I'll give you an example of <Dance to Saraswati, Goddess of Creation> in class. The goddess of creation referred to here is not a god of creation that exists separately somewhere outside of me, but rather the noble creativity that already exists within me. Find the Goddess of Creation within you with Odish dance.

Beginner class, that's right!

The dance introduced in writing may seem a bit difficult. However, even those who have never learned any dance can learn as much as they want, even in Odyssey. I'll let you know slowly, step by step, so don't worry. We'll laugh together and try new things one by one. Odisha and Indian philosophy will open up another new world for the world I live in. So, let's get started, shall we?

Curriculum

Creator

Hallo I'm Kim Bi-na, the Odish soloist and creator.

One day, by chance, I stumbled upon a dance for the first time in an Indian movie. It was an unspeakably soft and intense dance. It was like facing the moon floating in the night sky right in front of my eyes. I was a person who lived a life completely unrelated to dance until then, and I was twenty-eight years old, too late to become a professional dancer. However, when I learned the name of the dance called Odishi, I headed that way to Odisaju, India. I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful teacher. In order to understand not only dance techniques but also dance culture with the whole body, I began training while living with local people in rural Odisa where it is difficult to meet foreigners, and I became an Odisi teacher in 2010 and have been living a grateful life between India and Korea for 19 years. For me, Korea is my father's land, and India is my mother's land. I would be very happy if it could help me get closer to Odish dance, Indian philosophy, and Indian culture, which are fascinating yet difficult to understand, and face new perspectives and worldviews.
