Most of us don't pay attention to the things around us. But is there anything as great as our everyday objects?

-Michael Craig Martin-

Is there something you carry around everyday?

My painting starts here. It's about drawing things we often see around us in our daily lives. They can be objects and animals that people around you care about, or things around you that you get used to using everyday and don't realize how important they are. And then, the next thing to do is to give it a new perspective by adding in sense of aesthetic beauty.

In particular, I am drawing pictures that give a new perspective using various materials by combining the depth of realistic depths and the freshness of illustrations.

I majored in fine art and my life has been filled with art for over 10 years. I taught students preparing portfolios for the International Art Entrance Examination for a long time. Often, I taught students to draw things they personally use to reveal themselves, since "me" is a commonly used portfolio theme for entrace exam.

My challenge was always "How do you turn these common items into an art piece for portfolio?" There was a great source of inspiration that helped me get through this challenge. It was meeting the artist, Michael Craig Martin!

This artist draws pictures with our everyday items and uses techniques that use dark primary colors to aesthetically express "the importance of everyday life."

Also, his work has deep symbolism. For example, a cellphone does not just mean a cellphone; it also symbolizes “consumer culture in the digital era.”

Everything around us can be a work of art!

“Giving familiar things around us an unfamiliar and new aesthetic perspective”- this is the key point. To create this new perspective, we'll try two styles of drawing. One will be realistic drawing utilizing basics of drawing, and the other will be illustrations created by simplifying the realistic drawings you previously worked on, with the extra touch of your creative style and colors.

But in order to draw these, we need to know how to draw realistically and what kind of illustrations you will develop the original drawing into.

Let's start painting with objects applied to basic shapes.

If you start drawing with basic shapes, drawing becomes easier!

In this class, we will be looking into 4 basic objects which you can utilize in drawing pretty much any shape, cube, cone, sphere, cylinder, 2 texture expressions, and a composite object for advanced level lesson. After drawing items, there'll be an extra chapter for you to draw items of your choice.

▶ ︎ Realistic Painting > Illustration

Once you've finished working on these items, we'll try making it into illustrations with your unique style. For these illustrations, we'll add some wording (letters), so that you can use this for present or room decor. For illustration, realstic drawing is a prerequisite, so the lessons are planned to cover both styles in pair.

After learning basic skills in through each chapter, I've prepared an additional chapter for you to draw things things you've wanted to before or take photo, and developing them into various illustration styles.

Is it a photo or a painting?

“Is it a photo or a painting?” If you hear these words from friends and family around you, that awesome would it be? Wouldn't it be even more surprising if you tell them you drew it on an iPad? Let's make this amazing thing happen!

Did you just think "How am I going to draw that?"

First, let's learn how to draw objects we actually see in three dimensions on a flat sheet of paper! We'll begin with drawing 'point, line, pane'.

Then these elements meet with the concept, 'tone', converting a flat object into a three dimensional object. This 'tone' is also referred to as 'contrast'.

The process of drawing objects from basic shapes

After adding contrast, we'll learn about various ways of coloring and expressing texture, using different types of brushes and other useful functions.

There'll be basic classes to help beginner understand and follow these basic concepts, and advanced classes for further variations. You can experience everything from basic to advanced, all-in-one!

Learning the basics is always tiring and difficult. However, with iPad, boring basics can become really easy and fun, thanks to various brushes and app functions.

Create your own color

After learning about the color wheel, where you can understand the relationships and combinations of colors, and the color palette where you can get inspiration and feel the colors, you will mix and comebine the colors on your own, create your own personal color palette and work on illustration.

Does Apple Pencil really work like pencil and brush?

All you need is an iPad and Apple Pencil. And the app that illuminated these smart items is 'Procreate'!

I'll tell you step by step about “Procreate,” a drawing app that'll help you draw easily but give that sense of hand drawing.

Wouldn't it be really meaningful to present your own drawing or decorate your room?

You can draw even difficult looking paintings easily once you understand the basic principles and utilize the smart tools with the tips I'll share. Let's try this together, shall we?

Let's indulge in the taste of Apple Pencil together!

Hello, this is EL. I majored in fine art I have been teaching students preparing portfolios for the International Art Entrance Examination for a long time, having lived a career as a painter for over 10 years. While teaching portfolio paintings to students from different cultures in foreign countries, I came across a lot of different paintings. I became interested in illustration painting, which is one of those varieties, and I have been working by combining fine art and illustration. At the same time, I started drawing on the iPad, a versatile tool for working with analog and digital!

At first, “Can digital have an analog feel?” As I said, I only draw with my iPad now. Haha... Being able to digitally create the delicate feeling of manual work, being able to make corrections with a single touch so I'm not afraid of making mistakes, and being able to draw various pictures without getting bored by changing materials with just one touch is a magical tool for me.

It has the analog sensibility of manual work, but you can draw easily and more accurately by using digital functions. I decided to plan this course because I wanted to share and share this magical experience I felt with all of you. The iPad is no longer just for watching videos, but I'm here to help you enjoy a fun hobby. Thank you!
