Skills You’ll Learn
Hello, everyone who loves drawing! Nice to meet you!
I worked as an advertising, film, and broadcast graphic designer for about seven years and now I run a studio as an artist and teach drawing.
Still Life Drawing, the ‘Art of Capturing the Most Beautiful Moment'
Still life painting is a genre of Western painting that developed throughout Europe in the 19th century, where non-moving objects such as flowers, fruit, and utensils were observed and painted. It was an art enjoyed only by the nobility to express power or ideology. They praised the beauty of the moment when various still lifes were harmoniously expressed and the objects were captured on the canvas.
Fortunately, still life painting is now much more familiar to our daily lives, and it has the charm of focusing completely on myself from the moment I start creating a three-dimensional still life from scratch. It attracts the eyes and makes us think, rather than just passing by as a picture.
It's an attractive art that breathes life into objects with texture and color, harmoniously combining them and turning ordinary objects into beautiful pictures.
There is no art like still life painting that allows you to express your personality with the touch and color you want.
We have an iPad, you know!
Even a difficult still life painting would be much easier to draw with an iPad.
The biggest advantage of digital drawing is that it's really easy to edit. Even if the shape is a bit off or rough, it's okay. You can easily go back and redraw or erase with just one touch if it looks strange.
One of the advantages of still life painting on iPad is that you can use various brushes to express different textures. Since basic brushes that can express various textures are already prepared, you can make a variety of expressions by choosing them carefully. The use of appropriate brushes is really important! I will explain it more carefully since it's important.
Expressing Depth in Artwork Through Texture
Since still life is composed of objects with various materials, it is really important to express how each material is represented. Especially materials that reflect and project surroundings such as glass bottles and glass cups refresh the painting and make it rich.
There are elements that need to be expressed appropriately according to the characteristics of materials such as rubber, glass, and ceramic materials. I will explain in detail the characteristics and methods of expressing different materials such as reflection, refraction, and projection in the process of drawing each object of still life.
Matching Colors That Improves the Quality of Drawing!
Choosing and applying colors to drawing is always fun, and that brings life to the artwork. If you find it difficult to choose colors, it may be because of the approach you are taking. Instead of randomly selecting colors, try finding colors that work well together.
First, find a color combination that you like and feels good to you, and then try to understand how that combination works.
Keep doing this, then you'll find yourself easily matching colors that work the best!
I'll teach you in detail as to how to print your handcrafted drawing on various textures such as thick paper or canvas. Since it's a digital process, you can print the drawing at a larger size as a gift or as an addition to your home decor.
By creating artwork, I hope you'll discover the charm of still life painting and the joy of creating art:)
