Folk tales that capture the traditional beauty of Korea,

You'll fall in love with that charm.

Hello? This is a silent flower room.

I am the director of Apgujeong Mukyeon Fire Room, which has been running a folktale studio for over 10 years. In the meantime, I taught many members in on-site lectures, and I myself couldn't break up because I fell in love with the charm of folk tales. Therefore, many people who listen to live lectures have been drawing folktales with me for a long time.

Why do so many people fall in love with folk tales?

Why we are bound to fall in folk tales

Folk paintings are traditional Korean paintings. Since ancient times, our ancestors painted pictures containing their own precious wishes or wishes for others. Folk tales, such as the desire for children to be healthy and successful, the desire to live a long and happy life, and the desire to be rich, are pictures that contain the many hearts and earnest wishes we hope for in our lives.

Each A picture that contains heart and hope, I think this is the biggest attraction of folk tales.

Folktale, which contains such a heart and hope, is beautiful even as a work of art itself. It has a variety of colors, an original composition that is different from the traditional Western structure, and even a humorous wit. So it's perfect as an interior accessory.

Peony, capture your wishes.

Flowers appear a lot in folktales. Among them, the flower I draw the most is the peony, and I draw with one material or with other materials. Peonies “Wealth and Peace”It contains the meaning of, and it is a material used in a variety of ways, from folktales to court paintings.

Peonies are the largest and most colorful flowers, making them royal flowers. Therefore, they also decorated the royal queen's room with peonies. Pray for wealth and peace through your own peony.

Sun Moon Obongdo, a painting symbolizing royal power

Ilwol Obongdo is a picture you've probably seen a lot in historical dramas and movies. It's a decorative painting placed on the back of the king's dragon statue. As much as the painting symbolizes royal power, it was magnificent. I'm sure it would be a wonderful time for all of you to draw pictures that you can still see when you go to the old palace. We draw at a small size, but if you draw in a larger size after being stubborn in class, you will feel the grandeur even more.

When I see that my Sun Moon Obong is also used after receiving global advertising proposals, I think the appeal of Sun Moon Obongdo is so powerful that it is bound to fall out of the world beyond Korea.

Luxurious colors in a muted flower room

Paintings and folktales with meaning. What color you use to capture that meaning makes a big difference. I think the reason why the style of painting in the silent painting room draws the attention of many people is its soft and calm colors. The color that makes you feel relaxed when you look at it is due to the proper combination of powder (powder paint) and tube paint. I want you to draw traditional folk tales with the feeling of a silent painting room, which is a different level from simply making colors with just tube paint.

With a curriculum that contains the know-how of Mukyeon Hwa Shi-shil

I learn systematically.

1. Learn how to use materials and tools

My class uses traditional folklore techniques. Therefore, understanding the materials and tools of traditional folklore is very important. With a detailed explanation of the characteristics of materials and tools and how to use them, you will be able to apply them to your work.

2. Learn basic expression techniques in traditional folktales

“Barim” is a coloring technique for oriental painting. It is a method of gradually lightening or darkening colors using a gradation technique. It is a way to enhance the appeal of folklore even more by using a technique of alternating between a coloring brush and a painting brush. You can learn the Barim techniques applied to folktales through these steps.

3. Practice folktale expression techniques through Morando

Once you've learned the basic expression techniques of folktales, you should try drawing pictures that you can apply, right? I also prepared Peony, which I often do for the first time in the Japanese style room. It's a basic painting, but if you finish it, it will make a perfect gift. Peonies bring good luck! It would be great as a gift, right?

4. Complete folktale expression techniques through Sun Moon Obongdo

You may have gained confidence in folktale expression techniques by completing the peony. This will also motivate you to complete a more wonderful work. For those of you, we have prepared a picture symbolizing royal power, Sun Moon Obongdo. It's one of the paintings Minhwa people want to draw the most, so if you follow them to the end, you'll get lots of tips that you can't easily learn anywhere else.

5. A better way to keep my work

Instead of pasting it on a panel, I draw directly on Korean paper to make use of the hand feeling that the paint permeates. Assigning and framing your completed works is also the final step in completing the work. I'll share my know-how, so I hope it will be a valuable experience to finish a wonderful work, decorate, or give a gift.

The beginning of a new life with folk tales

Is drawing folktales just a matter of getting one more hobby? More than that, many members I've seen are trying new things in their lives. They also participate in exhibitions, continue to work, and gain a sense of accomplishment by winning contests. In addition, they have obtained a folk painting certificate and are also opening a folk painting workshop. I will pass on my know-how so that all of you can try something new, just like the members who paint the pictures they want and do their favorite work.

We welcome you to the Mukyeon Flower Room with the joy of folklore!

For those who find it difficult to listen to on-site lectures due to various reasons in the Japanese style room, we will bring the know-how of Mukyeon Hwa Room to all of you in an online class. I hope that the fun of folk tales will be with you at this time when going out is difficult and meeting people is not easy.
