Skills You’ll Learn

Basics of transparent watercolor

Beginners are also safe to learn from the basics of transparent watercolor.

Line drawing, copying, and how to draw people

Even if you don't like drawing, let's first learn from an example and start drawing with line drawings and reproductions while watching videos.

From rough to line drawing and painting

You will learn consistently from rough to line drawing and painting for finishing a one-piece picture.

Would you like to draw plants and people with delicate lines and light colors?

Hello, I'm Yu, an illustrator!

In this class, you will learn how to draw illustrations of plants, crystals, people, etc. that bring out the delicate lines and the transparency of light colors. I will also tell you a wide range of slightly deeper parts of drawing and transparent watercolor, such as the proportions of the face and body, color mixing and painting methods, and interesting expression techniques using blur and salt.

Have more fun drawing the illustrations you want to draw!

“If you fail with transparent watercolor, you won't be able to start over, and you won't be able to draw well...”

“I can't do more than my usual expressions...”

For this class, we have designed a curriculum for people who are new to drawing illustrations, to those who usually draw digital illustrations, and those who draw transparent watercolors but want to expand their range of expression.

An interesting technique using dull and fantastic color mixing and saltPeople, plants, crystals, sky, etc.Draw 11 works

First, I will carefully tell you the tricks to create a sense of transparency.

For colors with low saturation and a sense of transparency, it is important to mix colors by combining complementary colors well. Let's draw works using a variety of watercolor expressions using mixed colors.

Then, to practice creating a transparent gradation, I will draw a “sky.” Let's learn various techniques while actually drawing.

Improve your drawing skills! Understand the structure and draw well-balanced illustrations

Coloring is fun, but the basis of illustration is drawing. I will teach you how to draw rough plants and people, and well-balanced proportions from the basics in an easy-to-understand manner.

Even if you have never drawn an illustration before, I will give you tips on how to firmly grasp the structure and support you so that you can draw an illustration from scratch.

A girl with an ephemeral atmosphere

Normally, I often draw illustrations of girls with floral motifs. This time, I'm going to draw a portrait-sized girl. From how to draw eyes as clear as glass, to clear skin, silk clothing textures, etc., I will also closely introduce tips unique to Yu.

The appeal of transparent watercolors! Transparent colors and bleeds that cannot be produced digitally

I originally drew digital illustrations, but I immediately fell in love with the unique colors and beautiful bleeds that can only be produced with transparent watercolors. There were a lot of things I was worried about because it didn't go well, but as I learned steadily from the basics, the range of expressions gradually expanded, such as “I can get a deep color this way” and “if I paint it this way, I can paint it cleanly without unevenness,” and it became more and more fun.

First, it is important to learn the basics and then practice knowing and practicing various techniques. Everyone will be moved when you get closer to your ideal expression!

I think the points that each student wants to get are different, such as those who have trouble getting cloudy colors or those who want to learn fantastic watercolor textures, etc., so I think it would be nice if I could carefully help push everyone's backs one by one.

Clear watercolor, why not get started now?

I work mainly on exhibitions at galleries and events in Kansai. I also make miscellaneous goods such as bookmarks and postcards with illustrations drawn in watercolor. I've been drawing on my own since I was a child, and I started using transparent watercolor in 2017.

After that, they taught me basic drawing and transparent watercolor in a painting class, and learned various techniques such as how to mix colors to create beautiful colors and how to use a brush to match the motifs.

I myself originally thought “watercolor seems difficult...”, so I hope people who feel the same way can feel safe. I would be happy if I could generously tell you what I can tell you and help first-time users or those who want to expand the range of watercolor expression.

[Creator Interview]

Q. What points did you put the most effort into when planning the class?

A. We put effort into creating a curriculum where students can enjoy learning as many expressions as possible, as well as low-saturation colors and delicate atmosphere. We try to be polite and easy to understand so that even first-time users can feel safe! I think the points that each student wants to get are different, such as those who have trouble getting cloudy colors or those who want to learn fantastic watercolor textures, etc., so I think it would be nice if I could carefully help push everyone's backs one by one.

Q. Please give a message to the students!

A. Everyone is a beginner at first, so if you feel like trying, that's fine! There are many parts where you concentrate on your fingertips and draw delicate lines, so I think it will be a mindfulness time where you can switch from your hectic everyday life and concentrate on drawing time when you notice it. Since it's an online class, you can recommend it slowly at your own pace without hurrying. Let's have fun together!
