Class introduction

We are exposed to a lot of media in our daily lives, and we unknowingly encounter many computer graphics, or CG (computer graphics), within them. Sometimes in behind-the-scenes footage of a movie or TV show, the green screen behind a character is the most basic foundation for creating the picture we'll eventually see on a cell phone or TV. In this way, CG makes up for insufficient production costs during filming, and is also a very powerful art tool to finally obtain the picture the director wants; these works make workers and the like imagine other worlds beyond the screen, and they also become a dream for anyone watching.

In such an attractive CG, work is actually carried out through many processes and various parts. Among them, the part that is responsible for the background beyond the back of the green screen using a photo or source in a movie or TV show is a matte painter.

The “work” of using Matt Painter's creativity and imagination to fill beyond the green screen is very fascinating. I'm really honored to be able to introduce this field to the class. I've prepared a course where you can fall in love with Matte Painter by learning one by one, so all you have to do is prepare to enter now.

N reasons why this class is special

❶ Movie and TV industryThe most active in

Matt Painter shares practical know-how

You've probably seen the scene of zombies running in the Netflix original <My School Now > and the scene where the whale moves in the building forest in the drama <Strange Lawyer Woo Yeong-woo > at least once. All of the know-how I've learned over the past 6 years working on everything from Netflix dramas to movies that everyone is familiar with is captured in this class. I'll teach you step by step so that those who are new to matte painting can understand the basic theory of CG. Someday, you too will be able to grow into a matpainter who creates CG for content loved by people all over the world.

❷ Changing from one matte painting technique to another

An opportunity to experience the world of movies and TV shows

The medium of movies and TV shows is one of the most attractive media. The drama we usually watch is created through various processes, and one of the great advantages is that we finally create media that other people watch in the creative field. The fields and content that CG work and Matt Painter can build are becoming more diverse, so expand your career through this class. This lecture will be able to show you the appeal of Matt Painter in creating the background for a movie or TV show you are curious about.

❸ An introduction to matte painting from an industry practitioner!

Creating a place that doesn't exist with Photoshop

Matte painting has a limited community, and few people do it, so there's very little information you can get. So you'd think it's a very difficult industry to get into. The matte painting work you actually learn at an offline school and the portfolio you create is not a matte painting, but just a result worthy of being called a compositor. Since I've been studying various parts of the VFX part over a long period of time at the school, I can only create unattractive portfolios without focusing on any of them.

This course can be said to be an introductory guide designed for such people. In class, you can learn everything from basic theory of matte painting (perspective, light, reflection, etc.) to practical examples. We've prepared it for those who didn't feel ready to get started because they didn't have any information until this point. Prospective matte painters, just be prepared to absorb all of your knowledge and skills!

Matte painter Debo.

Hallo Deboe is working as a matte painter in her 6th year as a matte painter who will teach you a matte painting lesson for everyone in the class.

I joined Mofac in 2017 and worked for several months over several months, such as <The Devil Calls Your Name>, <The Battle of Jangsari>, <The Battle of Jangsari>, and <Monster >, but I've been working on a variety of tasks so much that I've worked on in a short period of time. At Westworld, where I've been working since 2020, I mainly worked on TV shows, especially Netflix OTT work, rather than movies.

Representative works include <My School Now >, <The Sea of Silence>, <The Sea of Silence>, <Strange Lawyer Woo Yeong-woo >, and <smuggling>, and the Netflix drama <Courier> is probably the Netflix drama <Courier >.

The reason for creating the class

Producing movies and TV shows was my dream. In some ways, movies also make us experience a world we couldn't have imagined. So I wanted to feel the excitement of coming out after seeing my old avatar again. If I created that background and the film was completed, and if the movie I made could become a dream for others, that alone made me happy. So I looked for information about it and learned how to draw.

However, it was really hard to find any information, tutoring, or school related to matte painting. Rather, if my dream was matte painting, I had to explain it for a long time because I didn't know what it was, and that fact doesn't seem to change even now. There aren't many people working here, and there probably aren't many people who actually learn matte painting. That's probably why they don't have much information.

That's why I've always thought it would be nice if there were at least some introductory documents needed by people who are preparing or interested in matte painting. That first step is probably about to start with class 101 now.

It's still an introduction, so I'm not going to be able to cover any in-depth content. However, I hope it will be a small lighthouse for those who want to know what matte painting is.

Finally, to my classmates

A story I want to tell

There are many works coming out at this moment, and I think that will continue to be the case. Due to various OTT programs, movie-like quality is increasingly required in dramas, and it seems that now is a moment where the ability of workers is more important than anything else. In particular, since there are more environmental factors in constructing screens, it has become important how to work more efficiently. These factors also mean that the amount of work eventually increased, but on the contrary, there are many opportunities for growth. There are many untold stories in this world. There are also various tasks to match, and the story can finally be completed by you. We'll do our best to help make this primer a good guide for you. So let's get started, shall we?
