When we encounter complex problems, we usually think one by one, starting with what comes to mind.

However, the more thoughts you have, the more complicated your mind becomes, and it becomes difficult to know what to solve first.

In this case, what you need is a logic tree, a logic tree.

A logic tree is a thinking technique that allows you to view complex problems or tasks in a structured way by dividing them into small units. However, in a logic tree, simply drawing a box and learning how to connect branches is not enough.

The important thing is what criteria to use to divide the branches.

The author of this course was trained directly on logic tree and pyramid structures by a McKinsey consultant while participating in a group project as a new employee. There was a question I was asked over and over again every time I made a logic tree and took it with me.

“Is this MECE?”

“What is the logic that divides these things?”

Through this repetitive training, I learned that there is a difference between simply dividing content in the shape of a tree and creating a logic tree with logical standards.

Incorporating a logic called MECE into Tree Structure.

This is the core of the logic tree you'll learn in this course.

It doesn't start with a difficult business problem

It's not easy for someone new to logic trees to tackle complex business problems right away. The problem itself is also difficult, because you have to think about the criteria for dividing the problem at the same time.

So an “easy-to-understand logic tree” starts with familiar, easy-to-understand problems.

Let's use a logic tree to solve problems that anyone can easily understand, such as what are the criteria for choosing a partner, why they are not good at cooking, what to do to avoid being late, and why they have gained weight.

After that, it went through issues such as lecture satisfaction, internet speed, and customer decline, and gradually expanded to various issues such as traditional sake sales, word of mouth, uniformity of food taste, table rotation, raw material supply, and inspection of defective products.

Easily create the problem itself, draw an image in your head, and ask, “What logic do you divide this problem into?” This course is designed to focus on

Train What·Why·How over and over

The first part of the course will understand the differences between tree structures and logic trees, and explore the role MECE plays in logic trees.

Next, you'll learn how to actually write a logic tree and the three basic types.

What Tree finds what it consists of.

Why Tree finds out why such a problem occurred.

How Tree finds a way to solve it.

Afterwards, repetitive case training will be the focus rather than explanation.

Meet one problem, decide on an initial question, and think about what to divide the first one into. While refining those branches again, check if each step is MECE.

As you repeat this process on various problems, you get used to Logic, which divides problems rather than in the form of a logic tree.

The goal of this course

The goal of this course is not to draw a logic tree a few times.

Rather than thinking about the answer as soon as you encounter a problem,

“What can we divide this problem into?”

“Why do we share it like this?”

“Is eggplant and eggplant MECE?”

It's about creating a habit of thinking naturally.

Get used to logic trees through easy problems, and develop the ability to look at problems structurally by applying various MECEs over and over again.

And once this foundation is sufficiently developed, it can evolve into a more specialized business logic tree.

Start with an easy problem, learn Logic,

Get used to logic trees through repeated training,

The process of ultimately creating a foundation for structurally solving real business problems.

That is an “easy-to-understand logic tree.”

Next is the business logic tree.

McKinsey consultants don't look for answers to complex problems as soon as they encounter them.

First, clearly define what the problem is. And it breaks big problems down into smaller ones. At this time, I think MECE so as not to be left out or duplicated.

Next, structure the problem using the Logic Tree.

Different business problems, such as why sales have dropped, where costs can be reduced, whether to enter a new market, and why customers are leaving, are also placed on a logic tree and broken down one by one.

Once the problem is structured, we don't investigate everything. Hypotheses are made on important points, and the key causes are narrowed down by confirming necessary data and facts. Then, we create a viable alternative by turning the discovered cause back into a solution result.

The same goes for consulting projects.

The client's complex problems are divided into several key issues, and each issue is broken down into detailed questions. Team members take charge of divided issues, analyze them, and consolidate the results back into a single structure.

Also, at the end, the analyzed content is not listed as it is.

Using Pyramid Structure, a conclusion is presented first, and the key messages and evidence supporting the conclusion are logically arranged to persuade the opponent.

So if you simplify the McKinsey work flow, you can look at it like this.

Think as MECE → structure and solve problems with a Logic Tree → persuade them by organizing them into Pyramid Structure.

This course focuses on the Logic Tree in the middle.

However, it's not just about learning how to draw a logic tree.

The hardest thing in a logic tree is not drawing a box and connecting the lines, but “what will you divide the first branch into?” It's about deciding

Even the same problem can be divided into customers, competitors, and companies. It can be divided into internal and external, and it can also be divided according to business processes. It can also be divided by a numerical crystal structure.

The problems you see vary depending on how the primary development is carried out.

Therefore, in this course, actual business problems are presented and asked one by one.

“How would you unfold this problem first?”

Various possibilities are compared based on six deployment methods: tool, opposition, and the three elements of resources, process, component, and multiplication division. Then, let's take a look at how the actual logic tree was developed based.

The core of this process is to accumulate standards and patterns for sharing problems in one's own thinking while repeatedly dealing with various cases such as sales, profit, sales, new business, production, quality, development, organization, and customer service.

It's not about memorizing a finished logic tree.

The moment you see a problem,

“What's the cause?” before

“How can we share this problem?” That's what I think.

That's the McKinzie-style business logic tree way of thinking that you'll learn in this course.
