Skills You’ll Learn

Let's take a look at the lines used in botanical art

Learn about lines that are an excellent tool for representing flowers with colored pencils.

Shape practice_Changes in shape by angle

Let's take a look at how a flower looks different from angle to angle and sketch it.

Contrast and material expression exercises

To express realism, contrast and materials must be well included. Let's practice with a pencil.

How to mix colors

Learn what to keep in mind when mixing colors and try mixing typical colors.

Now let's actually apply the colors and contrasts we've practiced

Let's express color and contrast on a cherry tomato, which is the simplest form of a circle

How to express white flowers

Let's draw a picture of how to express a white flower that doesn't contain color, and try adding stripes

How to brightly express red tulips

Flowers vary in brightness depending on the degree of material expression, even if they have a simple shape.

Detailed depiction method

It seems difficult to draw, but let's draw a flower arrangement, which is an element that makes the picture gorgeous.

How to use various tools

I also use tools to express the fluff of a flower bud and the bark of a branch

The more you know, the more fun the painting: Botanical Art

Flowers bloom, flowers bloom

Flowers bloom and lose, so I take pictures because I want to keep them pretty. But I won't be able to look for the photos again. If it's a picture, I can put a flower by my side just as it is in the most beautiful way, just the way I want to remember it. Because I drew while observing, I remember every breath, and it's special. Thinking about how to draw, imagining how I want this kid to look, and looking at the flower's expression that reflects my mood, it becomes a flower that comes to me.

Flower painting instead of flower watching

It's not easy to go anywhere these days, so it's been a long time since I went to a flower garden full of flowers. When I stand in a flower garden, I see myself smiling unknowingly. I think seeing something beautiful makes me feel better. Maybe flowers have the ability to heal. If you feel depressed or lonely while alone, find flowers.

drawing flowers is more difficult than drawing eyes, nose and mouth,

It's easy to get started

The reason flowers seem difficult to draw is, firstly, because I think of a flower with multiple flowers, stems, and leaves intertwined, and secondly, because even one petal has many curves. Once you've placed one flower and figured out the characteristics of the flower, it won't seem difficult anymore. Next, you can learn how to draw flowers.

The flowers, which are supported by lots of leaves, are gorgeous and look pretty even if you draw them, but for the first time, they are too complicated to be bothered by painting. Therefore, I prepared a picture that I could draw while refraining from leaves as much as possible and focusing on the flower clusters. Let's draw spring flowers step by step, starting with flowers that are easy to draw by dividing them into yellow, red, and white flowers.

Even after class, I can draw while looking at pictures

If I could draw one flower, I could draw two or three flowers. I can draw typical colors of flowers, and if I draw while looking at photos in class, I can draw with my own photos.

I learn something like this

From how to sketch to flower art

If you get into the habit of looking at objects as outlines, it becomes easier to arrange pictures. Let's take a look at how to look at each angle differently, and then sketch the object in a shape.

After expressing it in cotton, if you add a three-dimensional effect now, it will feel realistic. Learn how to add contrast. Coloring takes all three things into consideration: form, contrast, and color, so it's easier to start by learning how to capture shape and contrast with a pencil that excludes color at first.

After practicing well with a pencil, I learn how to color. Let's take a look at how to add contrast and materials with colored pencils to be effective, and how to mix colors.

If I'm ready to paint with colored pencils, I'll start with something very simple. From cherry tomatoes, which have the simplest shape of a circle, to express a three-dimensional effect, and enjoy the spring energy with yellow forsythia.

Tulips are simple shapes and easy to draw. If you add color and material expression, it will turn into a very colorful flower.

There are many people who have trouble with flowers without color. Let's draw together how to draw a white flower and how to draw a flower if it has a pattern.

The following is the most difficult flower art for beginning people.

If small things are dense, they only look like lumps, and you may feel that it is difficult to touch them. Once you know how flower arrangements are made, and once you've drawn them, the next one will be much easier.

Due to the nature of colored pencils, I use tools for parts that are difficult to express. Let's use a dot pen and an awl to easily express the fluff of a magnolia flower eye and the bark eye of a branch.

Learning precision with flowers

Precision painting is a painting that takes a long time to learn. This is because it takes time and effort to develop an observant eye and be able to express in detail. Botanical art is a picture that is precise and has an endless variety of materials, from simple flowers to precise plants whose limits are unknown, depending on the flower. So it's a painting that even beginners can start, and they can create results from time to time.

It's been close to 10 years since I came across botanical art, but I'm really excited that I still have more things to draw. Let's start with botanic art that never gets tired of beauty.

Jude

Hi, I'm Jude, botanical artist.

I love everything I work with my hands, so I majored in architecture and worked as an interior designer, and botanical art, which I came across by chance, is now my job.

I love immersive work because I've learned that I can see answers to things that I wouldn't be able to solve when I looked at them over and over again. It's easy to get tired of it because I have a digging personality, but I enjoy the fact that botanical art, which has been around for 10 years since I came across it, has so many materials, from easy to difficult, that I still have more to draw.

Botanical art is not authentic art, so it's a painting that art majors can learn, and even those who haven't drawn can start painting. I've also been recognized for my skills as a Fellow Member of the British SBA, so I'll show you how I draw. Start botanical art with me.
