How to deal with stone

You'll learn how to use the traditional pigment, stone

I'm Cheong-yeon, a creator who continues the tradition

After I went to American University, I had a great opportunity to work on restoring cultural assets. It's really meaningful and proud to fill in damaged and missing parts or fix cracked and broken parts.

I feel that we don't have much interest or avoidance in protecting our things around us. There are also people who don't know much about traditional pigments. I prepared this class because I wanted many people to be interested in continuing our traditions, not just those working in the field.

Stone, a very special material

Have you ever heard of Seokchae?

It's not a commonly used oriental paint or artificial material. The traditional pigment “stone” is a painting material made so that it can be collected one by one from colored stones and used as a material. It has been known as a very high quality ingredient since ancient times because everything is collected by hand.

Since it is an expensive material that has only been used in the court since ancient times, it is an ingredient that even people who have majored in oriental painting don't often use, but if you experience it, you will definitely feel how beautiful traditional coloring paintings are:)

Imagine a stone becoming a painting!

It's really amazing that so many students see stones become paintings.

Not only pigments, but also adhesives and basketcoats (stirred water) are all natural and traditional techniques, so it feels really special because it contains a lot of scientific elements rather than just a painting with excellent preservability.

While I work, it takes quite a long time, and sometimes it's difficult because I have to prepare each one, but I think the results and painstaking time are so valuable that I keep working.

A beautiful blend of the new and the old

You may be unfamiliar with traditional pigments that are tricky and contain lots of kanji characters. But nowadays it's also called Neutro! I want it to be a traditional coloring painting that you can enjoy from the old days according to today.

I'm going to draw a nice picture on silk using traditional techniques and natural materials from one to ten.:)

Coloring with traditional pigments is not difficult!

Did you find it difficult to paint with traditional pigments? I'll send you the basic preparation process ahead of time, so don't worry:) I'll send you the base material (silk), paint the brush, and fix the silk to the wooden frame.

You'll learn step by step how to draw on transparent silk, what stone is, how to use these natural materials, and how to draw.

We'll show you step by step with 3 different designs, so it's easy to start a wonderful experience. You will feel a great sense of peace of mind while the work is in progress.

Use basic coloring methods to make your own butterfly!

I'm also going to draw flowers and butterflies with a slightly more difficult pattern. I'll try to color the surroundings using the basic coloring method I learned earlier, and when coloring a butterfly, I'll choose the pigment I want to use and decorate it as beautiful as I feel.

Shall we draw with a little more depth?

Unlike the first and second pictures, I'll learn by painting the background on the back of silk. It will have a very luxurious feel with deeper paintings, delicate lines, and even gold lines. Little by little, you can feel why stone is a valuable pigment, and by the time you watch the video and finish it, you will have a very, very proud and wonderful work.

I was unfamiliar with coloring, now I can do it!

I'll share the know-how I've built up over a long period of time. Let's learn together!

If you look at it in a way, it's also a very laborious job. However, the great appeal of this work is that such a proud price comes along.

I'm Cheong-yeon, an office worker and artist working to preserve cultural assets. I have a certificate as a cultural property repair technician and imitator, and I wanted to spread the word about the time I have been working on through learning, so I decided to conduct the class. I wanted it to be an old thing that goes with something new rather than the raging and boring old things. I hope that this small wish of mine will also be conveyed to the students who take the class.
