Skills You’ll Learn
Hello! I'm Yul-Bam, an artist who draws manga and pictures.
I love colorful pictures with an oriental sensibility. When I was 22, I thought I should start working digitally in earnest, so I bought an iPad as a big mom. However, there were a lot of things I bumped into when working.
Since I only paint by hand,
When I first worked digitally, it was difficult to adapt.
When I drew on a slippery LCD, I was struggling because even the picture seemed to be drawn smoothly and hard. Furthermore, since I like the sensibility of oriental painting, I almost only worked with a brush pen, so I definitely wanted to create that feeling in my digital work.
Therefore, I have continued to think about manual work with iPad drawings, especially to express the impression that they are in brush pens or oriental paintings.
Adjust the brush Pen touch as if drawn with ink strokesHow to do it, Expressing the color that permeates HanjiWays to do it! Through this class, I would like to share with you the know-how I have learned over a long period of research.
1) Create your own brush and texture layer by transforming and applying the basic brush
First, we'll look at the basic features of iPad Pro Create. Then, try to create your own brush using the basic brushes in the app. Since pen drawing is a larger class, Making a brush that consists of “pressure and concentration adjustment” that I wantI think this is the first and most important:)
2) Simple expression of a “deformed” character with a complex looking human body
The characters that tell the story in the illustrations play a very important role.
Wouldn't you like to create characters that are as funny and lovely as the characters in anime and manga?
When I first majored in animation, I had only drawn live-action portraits until then, so I had a lot of lost parts. These are the methods I learned by bumping into them myself, to all of you “Deform” process of drawing characters with a simple and simple designI'll let you know.
I'll also draw a variety of movements and poses that simply use only the character's thick basic skeleton, and various expressions showing the various emotions that the characters feel. In an illustration A character of your own, animated, and uniqueLet's complete it!
3) Various components of oriental style illustrations: traditional backgrounds and objects, hanbok drawing
Along with human body drawing Objects that make up an illustrationYou can't miss it, right? I can describe the beautiful hanbok and jewelry as much detail as I want.
I'll also give you some simple and easy tips on how to draw a background or natural object such as a tree or mountain, like an ink painting.
4) Ink strokes drawn with an iPad pen
In Procreate Adjust brush density and pressureI'm going to show you how to easily create an oriental painting feel even digitally using. From trees to hanok, hanbok, and the eyebrows and hair of characters As if they were drawn with ink one by one I think many people will enjoy the pen drawing I'm describing.
I have the most fun and happiest time drawing a pen line:) I'll tell you in detail and step by step so that you can draw in a fun and easy way!
5) A natural coloring method as if it were colored on top of Hanji
In order to make use of the oriental and handmade feel A coloring technique that looks like painting with paint on top of HanjiI'm going to learn. Try filling the areas that are close by with a darker concentration, and those that are relatively behind with a light concentration. The colors of the same series are stacked one after another, giving it a dreamy and colorful feeling.
6) How to fill a single illustration with the story you want to show
Until now, if you've drawn people, backgrounds, and objects separately, now Arrange everyone harmoniously in an illustration that melts an imaginary storyLet's do it and draw it!
There are many kinds of pictures in the world, and there is no right answer to the picture.
There's no need to be burdened with “drawing only the perfect composition and perfect body proportions.”
With my own picture
I think all you need to do is draw a picture you like and are satisfied with.
In the past, I couldn't find a picture I liked because I thought I had to draw perfectly while dealing only with entrance exam art, and I couldn't enjoy drawing. Eventually, I decided to draw “a picture of my own taste that I like” at a painting bar that I didn't enjoy.
I liked traditional designs such as hanbok and hanok in historical dramas, and I liked expressions that looked like they were being eaten on top of Hanji like oriental paintings. I am Pack your favorite things I was able to draw a picture that I like now. I have regained the feeling that I had so much fun painting when I was young, and now I'm happy to draw.
Even for those who come to take my classes, painting is not burdensome, A fun time to draw your favorite thingsI want you to be like this.

Hello, I'm Yul Bam, a cartoonist and story illustrator who won the Excellence Award at the '2020 Lydibooks Webtoon Contest' and is currently preparing to be serialized. I've loved historical dramas since I was a kid, so I learned Oriental painting in high school, and I wanted to do manga so much that I went to the animation department at university. I want to show you how to tell a story with illustrations that express the appeal of oriental paintings even though they are digital drawings! Let's draw together!
