traditional Finnish ornaments,

Do you know Himmeli?

Hinmeri refers to traditional Finnish joulu ornaments.

It is a polyhedral ornament with a complex geometric pattern made by threading a thread through straw, but I will teach you carefully from the basics so that even beginners can make it if they take this class.

Based on how to make basic octahedrons and polygons, I will teach you the points for making beautiful pieces, such as how to tie a thread, how to apply force when loosening, tightening, and tying, and how to use straw to make it efficiently.

We will challenge designs that can be enjoyed in a variety of situations, from traditional and basic mini chandeliers that combine a regular octahedron to modern star-shaped hingmeri, wreaths, etc., and hanging them on walls.

Feel free to challenge beautiful works that are fun

In this class, the theme was to “have fun” so that even those who have been worried about the high level of difficulty due to the complexity of the form and have not been able to take on the challenge easily can complete it while having fun.

In order to reduce the difficulty of the work, we prepared a pre-cut straw kit, and the tying process was simplified by adding a touch of ingenuity. I will also tell you tips for creating it so that the finished shape does not lose its shape.

Even if you omit the time-consuming work

It has a beautiful finish ✨

We have made this class so that even those who are new to making himmeri can complete it while watching online lessons alone. In the lesson, we will make it using two fastening methods.

Himmeri steadily makes one part at a time and combines them to complete the shape. It's so beautiful and rewarding that you forget about time and look at it just by looking at it.

Why don't you make Himmeli, a Finnish lucky charm, together that brings brightness into the room?

Q. Why did you decide to offer online classes with CLASS101?

A. I thought there would be an opportunity for people who live far away and can't participate in the actual face-to-face lessons but would like to try making himmeri, so I decided to offer online lessons with CLASS101.

Q. What points did you put the most effort into when planning the class? Who would you recommend this class to?

A. Since these are online lessons rather than face-to-face, we have devised work methods and processes so that even one person can complete them as easily as possible and so that trouble does not occur. I would be happy if you could take on the challenge even if you are a beginner who has been interested until now but couldn't make it because it seemed difficult!

Q. What kind of experiences do you want your classmates to experience through this class? Also, please say a word to your classmates!

A. Hinmeri is a craft that is complicated and takes time, but it is very rewarding and has a great sense of accomplishment. Also, the completed Himmeli is so fascinating that you forget about time and look at it just by looking at it. I hope you will experience “the joy of making” and the “fun of decorating.” Let's have fun making Finnish lucky charms that have been handed down for 800 years with me
