Personally, I had a strong desire for work, and I learned about spreadsheets because I had a strong desire to learn about useful things. There are parts that were awkward and sloppy, but currently I'm helping stakeholders make decisions with my spreadsheet ability to create data that must be viewed rather than data they want to see.
