Q & A
Q. What is different about "stage acting"?
In movies and dramas, you act in front of the camera. However, in musical theatre, you have to act in front of a live audience. Unlike movies and dramas where you film by cut, you act, sing and dance for over two hours in musical theatre. So, you have to have a solid foundation to be able to maintain a high level of focus.
Q. What is the most important thing for musical actors?
It is important for musical theatre actors not only to sing well, but also to deliver stories with great impact through singing. That means you need solid singing techniques. Acting in musical theatre requires constant practice and reflection as you deliver the stories and emotions of characters through music, dance and acting more than in any other genres.
Q. What mindset is needed for stage performers?
The important thing is to balance your part throughout the work and perform your role in the play. In order not to become selfish and stand out, you have to understand the whole play and get the right balance for your role. You have to remember that acting is not something you can do by yourself, it is a collective work.
Q. What is the right mindset for an audition?
At the audition, try to control your mind pretending that you are putting on a show or singing in front of someone instead of that you are doing an audition. If you are nervous at an audition, it gets much worse when you perform in front of a live audience. Me, in this case, got better results when I relaxed and didn’t care too much about the outcome.
