Are you a financial consumer or an investor?

Five years ago, a large-scale stock craze among individual investors marked the beginning of the 2020s. Stocks are now a popular investment product rather than a few speculative products. However, shareholders' perceptions are still limited to financial consumers rather than investors. My body and wallet have moved over to the 2020s, but the economic outlook didn't break away from the 2010s.

If you catch anyone on the street and ask them, 1 out of 2 people invest in stocks.

I'm glad that holding financial assets is becoming popular. Even in 2016, when I started investing in stocks, there was a strong perception that stocks were speculation or gambling, and it was hard to recommend investing in stocks anywhere. Of course, I couldn't stop that social awareness, and I wanted to create a healthy investment culture by posting videos on YouTube that I'm ashamed to take out now.

Now, times have changed, and about half of the economically active population are shareholders of listed companies. I'm thrilled and proud even when I think about it again.

However, the reality is that 7 out of 10 Koreans are still classified as financially illiterate.

Even in the 2023 survey, which is a relatively recent survey, there was no significant difference in Korean financial understanding from the 2010s.

Meanwhile, the investment market grew, and a misguided culture of only following trading techniques with no theoretical basis was established. People ask, “What are stocks?” Not “What kind of sport should I buy?” I'm asking. I bought a commodity futures ETF and asked why the stock index is rising but my yield is negative. The fundamental approach is wrong.

The chart above is very famous in the financial sector. However, not many individual investors have seen this. There are several studies that have been conducted on the same topic, but I brought the oldest research results I've been able to find.

According to the “Components of Portfolio Performance” conducted in 1986, Asset Allocation (Asset Allocation) is 93.6%, which is more important than all other factors combined, such as trading timing and stock selection.

But why are people obsessed with stock selection and trading techniques that don't contribute even 10% to achieving results?

This is because they lack a basic understanding of finance. People buy and sell stocks dozens of times a day, and they don't know where their stocks are stored. I can't explain the difference between a securities company and an asset manager while investing in ETFs. It's impossible to include all of this in one lesson.

So I prepared it.

This course does not explain the definition of a simple and scientific stock. We don't discuss discount rates and stock valuation, which are only covered in investment theory classes. Only knowledge used in practice has been compressed.
