Let's think together about what the writer should and should not do.

Why write reviews?

Before I asked you, I asked my own questions. The reason I write a performance review is before the evaluation Because I wanted to share my favorite feelings It was.

Compared to other arts, performances have clear time and space restrictions, and the amount of money you have to pay for viewing is quite large. As a result, I felt lonely sometimes. For me, “performance writing” was about finding people with the same frequency to talk about their favorite work together. Will you join me?

Hallo I'm Jang Gyeong-jin, a performance columnist.

Reviews">

(Review of the play published in Seoul Arts Center magazine <The Boy at the End >)

For 10 years, I worked as a content producer and performance reporter for the entertainment web magazine <t>, <Asia>, >. > I left the company in 2017, and now I'm working as a performance columnist.

He writes about performances to various media, and introduces plays on KBS Radio <Cultural Empathy>. You can also find my articles in program books of works produced by the National Troupe, the Doosan Art Center, and Jeongdong Theater. Since June 2019, I have been publishing an independent magazine <Eight Marps> that focuses on the choices and lives of women in the performing arts.

(<Eight Marps> is an independent magazine that started in 2019 and is currently preparing for Season 2.)

Based on 14 years of know-how as a performance columnist, it's called “watching a performance” How to organize thoughts in a way that goes beyond hobbiesI would like to inform you. In this process, I will find myself growing through my tastes and continuous records. Because of the volatile nature of media, audience records soon become history.

The class will focus on 4 main topics.

  • How should we remember performing arts where the lights are turned off and disappear at the same time?
  • How do you complete a jumbled thought in a single sentence?
  • How do I find my own point of view and what format should I write according to?
  • What should I pay attention to while writing?

✅ How to remember performing arts

✅ How to organize and structure thoughts

In any article, victory is important. The same goes for performance-related articles. Leaving the volume, I will tell you in what order one post should proceed. After watching the performance, let's take a look at the writing you've collected, come up with your own point of view, and then work together to create a structure for a complete article.

✅ Practical writing

네이버 공연전시판 '올댓아트' 페이지에 인물론을 연재

(I'm serializing the character theory on the “All That Art” page of Naver's performance exhibition.)

Each article has a different name depending on its nature. Of course, writing also requires a different approach. This class will cover previews, reviews, personal information, essays, and interviews. In the case of the review, the curriculum was structured according to features only seen in performing arts, such as staging, re-performances, and immersive performances of the original work.

✅ What is important for a writer is attitude

(Interview with Isaram x Park Wi Wi x Yeosin-dong featured in the creative version <The Old Man and the Sea> program)

Accurate analysis and fluid sentences are the criteria for good writing. But I think the author's attitude is the most important thing of all. After all, everything is a human job, and good criticism and appreciation comes from respect for the work and the creative team. Let's also consider attitudes and precautions that writers should be wary of.

The first performance I booked to watch was a musical featuring Jo Seung-woo < Jekyll & Hyde>. It premiered in 2004, so it's been 17 years. Even with the tickets I've collected, I can remember the excitement of past performances. However, if you leave that feeling even briefly, the meaning becomes even greater.

Last year, I collected the articles I had recorded from 2009 to 2020 and published a book called “Record Book 100.” When I read the book, my memories of the 100 shows came back to me. But above all else, I saw myself growing up with the work. I also felt a sense of connection from readers' feedback that they felt similar. I really liked that memory.

The goal of this class is to “talk about what you like together.” We will also use community comments in a variety of ways. Use the techniques you learned in the course to record and review. It has the power to discover new things and connect. Let's feel the joy of records together.

I'm already excited to have friends to chat with.:)

I'll wait for you in class! 👋
