Hello, I'm Yoko Sano, a pastel artist.

Pastels can express a variety of colors. There is no answer to color, so I'm working under the name “Pastel Labolatory Color Laboratory” with the feeling that I want people to try a lot and come across a color they like.

In pastel art, you will learn how to draw illustrations using an art material called “pastel” in powder form. Pastels are an attractive art material that makes it easy to mix colors and can create hundreds of colors from a limited number of colors.

If you scrape and mix various colors little by little, you may encounter new colors, or you may stumble upon colors you have imagined.

Activities began in 2012. Solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and permanent exhibitions are held in Hayama, Zushi, and Kamakura. Over 100 works sold. Through art, we have relationships with people from all over Japan and the world.

My inspiration always comes from the local ocean and the waxing of the moon ♪ I feel that art reflects and conveys my state, and I always value feeling grateful and finding small joys.

[Creator Interview]

Q. How did you get into pastel art?

A. I met a pastel workshop, fell in love with the appeal of pastels, bought art supplies that day, went home, and got the qualification of a regular Japanese pastel art instructor! I've been drawing by myself for almost 10 years since I came across pastels, and I would be happy if my way of drawing would help ease drawing even a little.

Q. Please give a message to the students!

A. For me, who is not good at communication, art is both an expression of myself and one of the communication tools. I'm happy to be able to interact with so many people from all over Japan and around the world that I wouldn't have met if I hadn't drawn a picture. I really feel grateful for your relationship. Of course, I want people to enjoy art, and experience miraculous things beyond imagination through art!

Have fun!
