You don't need to be a translator or qualified to get started!

Many people who dream of being a translator have asked me.

“Do I have to leave graduate school for interpretation and translation?”

“Should I go to a translation school?”

“Do I need a translation certificate?”

I too had the same concerns as all of you. I thought I would have to leave the graduate school of interpretation and translation to prove myself, and I thought I would have to go to a translation school to improve my translation skills, and I thought I would only have to get a translation certificate to get a translation job.

However, this year is the 10th year since I started translating as a “business,” and I didn't graduate from the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation. I didn't attend a translation school, and I don't have a translation certificate. So I can tell you. It is said that anyone can do it if they make up their own minds and make an effort. I'll tell you all about how I got started and how I've walked this path in class.

Chinese emotional translation. Why is it a translation of “emotion”?

Translations that require a literary sensibility in translating are what I call emotional translation. Examples include good words, movie and drama lines, song lyrics, and translations of novels and essays.

HSK reading comprehension fingerprints can be interpreted by looking at the explanation paper, and technical translations that require accurate translation of technical terms can be found by looking at dictionaries or glossaries. However, in the field of emotional translation, which requires a literary sensibility, there is no correct answer anywhere. The reason for this is “there is no right answer.” There's only a better expression, the best answer. I'll show you the journey to find better expressions in the Chinese emotional translation class.

Chinese emotional translation, you can do it too.

Through this class, you'll be able to translate everything from good Chinese words to drama lines and essays at the end. If you have the ability to read Chinese and understand the meaning, you can try as many challenges as you want. It's not an easy process, but you'll get a tremendous sense of accomplishment and excitement through the challenges. You can do it too. I'll be your translation mate:)

Chara's class is going to tell a story like this.

✔️ Types and characteristics of translations, what kind of translation is right for me?

Technical translation, video translation, publication translation. They're all similar, but they're also very different fields. In general, I'll tell you what characteristics it has. Find out what field I'm suitable for as a translator.

✔️ What do I need to be a translator?

Have you ever wondered how good you should be at Chinese and whether you must have lived in China before? By the way, Chinese is also important, but there are things that are more important than that. I'll tell you that story.

✔️ Tips for translating rather than reading

Translation is a second form of creation. I'll tell you why translation is different from reading comprehension. Also, you'll learn tips for 'real translation' beyond the realm of reading comprehension.

✔️ Do-it-yourself emotional translation

Seeing is believing. You also need to try the translation yourself to learn it properly. I will develop the basics of emotional translation with good Chinese words and drama lines, and at the end I will try to translate some of the original Chinese essays < I will try to translate some of the original text of the Chinese essay < After experiencing translation in practice like this, after being stubborn, your translation confidence will grow! It's going to get bigger.

✔️ How to make your debut as a translator and how to study translation

Translators don't have a defined entry path, but there certainly is a way. It's a bit of a special case for me, but I'll honestly tell you all about how I became a translator and what efforts I made. Also, I'll introduce how to study translation, and the methods I've done so far.

✔️ (+ BONUS TIPS) HOW TO STUDY CHINESE

I also get a lot of questions about studying Chinese on a regular basis. Every time I do that, I always emphasize something. “Don't study Chinese, let's have a relationship.” I'll tell you how I've been in a relationship with Chinese over the years. I'll tell you all about how I developed my listening skills because I'm not good at listening, and how I was able to become a translator because I had trouble reading a single page of the application.

Chara is a self-proclaimed “woman in a relationship with Chinese” and works as an “emotional translator.” I majored in Chinese literature, but I love writing, and one day I fell in love with the charm of Chinese again, and I am living thanks to Chinese. This year marks the 10th year since I became a “writing Chinese translator” by jumping into the world of translators as if heading to the ground without going through a graduate school or translation school. One day, I stumbled upon healing words in Chinese, so I started translating Chinese sentiments. I want to share the excitement of the black Chinese language on the ground coming through my own hands and being born as a language we don't know.
