I graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. After working as an art teacher at a private junior high and as a product developer for baby products, I became an independent freelancer.
As an illustrator, I provided illustrations for product packages such as Dragonfly Pencil, WELEDA, and Natura Glace, as well as for Zexy Baby and Sangetsu.
As a designer, I also sold original textile designs at Nunocoto Fabric, and held pop-ups at major Japanese department stores under my own brand Brush Brush.
I also work as an instructor at calligraphy specialty stores and corporate events.
Both illustrations and calligraphy can create a delicate and feminine atmosphere with a casual touch and color.
In particular, I have my own special tips on how to draw beautifully and capturing the characteristics of botanical paintings, which enable me to draw any plant sensibly.
Furthermore, I provide product packaging, lettering design illustrations for companies and operate my own brand. I also teach online group lessons, regular lessons at calligraphy stores and corporate events.
I started illustration and calligraphy when I was in my thirties. So I hope you all always step up to challenges regardless of your age. You might need a lot of courage to start something new, but your skills will grow if you keep up with the practice. I hope you all can gain a long-lasting, useful hobby through this class.
[Creator Interview]
Q. How did you start calligraphy?
A. It all started when I seached #calligraphy on Instagram because I wanted to learn how to write cool letters. When I learned that there was a foreign artist who drew calligraphy pieces with brush pen, I started imitating the pieces I saw. As I was writing, I thought that it would be even better with drawings on it, which led me here. I have been continuously practicing since then.
Q. What did you focus on the most when planning your class?
A. I tried to share as many tips as possible. I recommend the class for not only the beginners, but also for those who want to create a piece with more ambience and a mesmerizing character.
Q. A word of message for the Classmates!
A. I started drawing illustrations about five years ago. In the past, I only studied paintings for entrance exams, and the only products I made were sculptures. In such a world without colors, I was not well-versed in color. However when I discovered calligraphy and started Instagram, I started drawing illustrations. And it was my encounter with calligraphy markers that led me to the joy of coloring. Even without the knowledge of watercolor, expressing vivid colors and gradation with markers was completely captivating. It was very fun to mix different colors and expand the range of expression.
Drawing for a long period allowed me to establish my own style of botanical illustration. In this course, I plan to deliver my tips on how my botanical illustrations are created. Everyone including those who are already into calligrapghy and beginners should all give it a try!
